Melody H. Brown, a resident of Roseville, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was born February 18, 1958, in Naples, Florida, the daughter of Ruth (Krebs) and James Brown.
She grew up in Florida with her mom and two sisters, Patricia (Brown) Noriega and Andrea McLaughlin, and near to her grandma and grandpa, Helen and Mack Krebs. Throughout her life she lived in many different cities in Florida but spent her school years in Pompano Beach. She loved spending time with friends at the beach even more than going to school. Summers were spent in North Carolina with her grandparents at their summer home.
In the early 1980s her cousins, Charley Maledon, Nancy Gaarenstroom and her husband, Steve, convinced her to move to Michigan to be near them. She enjoyed being near family here and made many friends during that time. In 1986 she headed west and lived in both Utah and New Mexico for awhile.
In the late 1980s she returned to Florida to live with and care for her mother, Ruth, during her final time. She stayed in Florida after her death, but moved to Palm Bay, enjoying old friends and making new ones. In 1993 she was involved in a motorcycle accident and suffered a non-union fracture of her leg, forcing her to give up her favorite job (Recovery Room Technician) where she worked as a valued member of the post-anesthesia care unit in a local Palm Bay hospital.
After visiting her Grandma Helen, living in Michigan in the early 1990s, Melody decided to move back north. She reconnected with a former boyfriend, Bob Perugi. They bought a small house in Roseville and together made it a warm and cozy home. At first it was shared with Sissy, her moms dog she brought here from Florida, then April, a cat, and Heidi, a German shepherd.
She became a caregiver for Elizabeth Hewelt and later Dorothy, daughters of her cousin Mary Alice. They were her girls and she loved them dearly.
Melody loved spending time with family and friends and was very content in her home with Bob and their pets. She always enjoyed her trips back to Florida to see her sisters and friends, especially her friend Lori Williams and her family. Visits to Michigan by Patti and Andrea were always looked forward to and enjoyed.
Melody suffered with liver disease for many years. Over the years this made her health decline and her discomfort increase. However, she courageously remained a model patient. With a careful lifestyle, Melody extended her life and spent more time with her friends and family. On November 5th she received a transplanted liver and was excited to begin a new life of improving health. Sadly, she suffered a rare complication and passed away on December 14th surrounded by loved ones.
Melody was the cherished companion of Robert Perugi, and dear sister of Patricia (Claude) Noriega and Andrea McLaughlin. She also counted her two first cousins and uncle and aunt as part of her immediate family: Charles (Linda) Maledon, Nancy Maledon (Steve) Gaarenstroom, their children, Dale and Amy, and Donald (Dolores) Maledon.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Gourmet Manor Banquet Hall, 29730 Groesbeck Highway, Roseville, Michigan. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm with a memorial service at 1:30 pm, officiated by Pastor Calvin Glass. To honor Melodys spirit, the family asks that you dress casually, in tie-dyed clothing if possible.
