Life Legacy

Dolores Jean Powers, age 72 of Oxford, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at home. She was born on January 14, 1939 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Nicholas and the late Jennie (nee: Szafranski) Basta.

In telling the story of Dolores, a definite mention would be that of her creative nature and abilities. From her more artistic leanings, there was her talents with craft projects where she dabbled in the venues of painting and ceramics. She also loved music and truly enjoyed singing and tickling the ivories on her piano. It was always a special treat to hear the lilt of her voice filling the room with melodies of the heart. Her creative skills were equally shared in her love of gardening as well. With the tender-loving-care of a master gardener, she enjoyed tilling the soil and nurturing her garden with the beauty that poured from within. Its growth was truly a reflection of the "care" that defined this wonderful lady.

And not merely with her garden, Dolores' caregiving nature was immensely shared and felt by the loved ones in her life. Immeasurably devoted to her family and friends, she found great delight in the special moments and memories that they created together. Especially precious were the times she spent in the company of her grandchildren. Some of their fondest moments were those woven around the holidays. At Easter, it was coloring the eggs together and sharing in the delicious repast of Easter breakfast. Christmas was also quite special for this Grandma who loved sharing the traditions with her cherubs. Of course, the most profound tradition was in the making and enjoying of the infamous Christmas cookies. Nothing says "a party in your mouth" more than the joy of Grandma's cookies at the holiday's.

As much love as Dolores had for her family and friends, there was also a very special portion that was shared with four of the "furry friends" that were part of her life, her dogs; Tammy, Taffy, Beausie,...and her favorite, Sam. These loving companions brought her countless hours of joy and pleasure, and were definitely a huge part of her family experience.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Dolores touched countless hearts along life's way and leaves behind a legacy of love that will be a warm reminder to all of the caring spirit she shared without measure. To those who were blessed to know her, she will be immensely missed and eternally loved.

She was the beloved wife of Arthur. Dear mother of Michelle (Karl) Schneider, Sharon (Keith) Olejniczak, and David (Karen) Powers. Loving grandmother of Laura, Lisa & Kaitlyn Schneider; Brandon & Justin Powers; and David & Nicole Olejniczak. Sister of Bernadine Logie and niece of Joan Soslowski.

Visitation for Dolores will be held on Friday, September 9th from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren.
